2015.008.019 A: Greeting card, Mother's Day, to Bessie Oldham Wiley from Frank A. Wiley, Jr., dated 1944. Side-fold card. Front features color illustration of a room scene - an armchair upholstered in floral fabric and a two-tiered side table covered with potted plants before a tall window with blue and pink drapes on a blue-striped wall hung with two small framed flower pictures. a knotted pink ribbon is attached through two small holes along left edge. Window "panes" are covered in tiny beads or glitter. In upper left is printed black text "TO / MOTHER / On Mother's / Day". Inside, small illustration of lamp, books, and vase of flowers is printed in lower left corner of left page. Right page is printed with black text "Wherever I am, / Whatever I do, / I always am thankful, / Dear Mother, for you; / Thankful for gladness / That you've brought my way, / Thankful for comfort / When skies have been gray; / And, Mother, I know / That you always will be / The dearest of gifts / Life has given to me." Handwritten in blue ink above the poem is "Dear Mama," and, below the poem, "Love, / Frank, Jr." Handwritten in blue ink in upper left corner of left page is date "1944". Back of card printed, in lower center, with text "A HALLMARK CARD 35 MD 4-4".
2015.008.019 B: Envelope, white paper, not stamped or postmarked, but dated in upper right corner "May 14, 1944". Addressed to "Mrs. Frank Wiley, Sr. / 1016 Albert Street / High Point, N.C." Return address reads "Frank Wiley, Jr. / 1016 Albert St. / High Point, N.C."
