2015.008.017 A: Christmas card, to Mary B. Wiley from "Jakie" [Clayton Fogleman?], postmarked December 21, 1939. Side-fold card on beige paper. Front is features a cut-out in the shape of a candlestick with gold-colored relief illustration of candle flame, holly branches, and evergreen branches; the cut-out is lined with a sheet of gold-colored foil. Another strip is cut out along bottom and lined with gold-colored foil. Flanking illustration is vertical black text "SEASON'S / GREETINGS". Inside, left page is printed with illustration of evergreen needles and pinecones. Right page is printed with black text "KIND REMEMBRANCE / AND BEST WISHES / FOR CHRISTMAS / AND THE COMING YEAR". Handwritten below in black ink is Your No. 1 Boy Friend". Below that, in pencil, is written "'Jakie'". On back of card, in lower left, is handwritten in blue ink "Dec 21 / 1939". Back of card printed, in lower center, with small manufacturer's logo featuring illustration of bird and text "1051 / MADE IN U.S.A."
2015.008.017 B: Envelope, white paper, stamped and postmarked December 21, 1939, High Point, NC. Addressed to "Miss Mary B. Wiley / 717 Grimes St. / City". Math problems written in pencil on obverse. Handwritten list in pencil on reverse reads "1) p 58 cont 102 / full-length novel / 2) If this were you / 3) They called me home / 4) I Sold Out To Love / 5) Big Blow - cont'd in / March Book / 6) Too Greedy / for Love / 7) Should your / Husband or children come / first? / 8)".
