Race St. / Statesville, N.C." On back of envelope is text, written in black ink and crossed out, "burial / Shock / Nerves".
Statesville, N.C. / June 9 - 1955 / Dear Bessie and all / your card received and / was glad to ear from / you hope all are well. / we are just fair my / back is hurting me / terriblely. Vera had / bad luck this morning / one of her front teeth / droped out her teeth / are no good. guess she / will have to have a / plate made. Pearl is / doing pretty good she / weighs 17. we had / big rain Monday night and / has been very cool since / then. one of Mrs. Jarvis' / daughters died monday / morning. I feel so sorry for / her. she is agood woman. / Now didnt we have a nice / time at my birth day / dinner. I certainly did / enjoy the day with you / all and appreciated my / gifts so much. It was so / sweet of all of you to / rember me. I enjoyed it / with all my heart.. we are / looking to having Peggy / she is such a sweet child / I went to sunday school / and preaching last sonday / our sunday school class / is having a picnic supper at / the college to night at six / oclock.
