Warren Jackson "Jack" Rives, Sr. began working at Anvil Brand in [year?].
Mr. Apparel, Inc. was started by Floyd Mehan in 1958. He was joined by Warren Jackson "Jack" Rives, Sr. [?] years later. The company grew from two to six sewing plants before being sold to U.S. Industries.
Jefferson Hill Rives and Warren Jackson Rives, Jr. bought Mr. Apparel from U.S. Industries on August 1, 1977, after working there since high school. They had the support of the employees and most stayed with the company.
Mr. Casuals was a sewing/clothing company in Troutsdale, VA, that joined W & J Rives, Inc. on January 15, 1979. This was a merger, not a full buy-out. The two maintained separate names. Mr. Casuals was acquired from U.S. Industries with assistance from Warren Jackson "Jack" Rives, Sr.
Ruff Hewn was founded in 1981 by Jefferson Hill Rives and Warren Jackson Rives, Jr., in affiliation with W & J Rives, Inc. Ruff Hewn focused on casual and sports wear.

Series consists of forty-six slides, organized as follows: 8-Slides showing a sewing plant under construction, dated 1966 2-System 2 Photo Processing Discs, each with 15 images from a company party or picnic, undated 36-Slides, showing a series of industrial plant and outlet store locations for sale. Based on visible cars, may date to early 1980s (when W & J Rives, Inc. was looking to expand or find a new location). A few of these slides have "May 81" printed on one side. 36-Slides, in container labeled "ANVIL BRAND 1", showing construction sites/plants under construction and people talking, inspecting the area, and moving into the new plant and office area. First slide is blank but has handwritten note "ANVIL / 1964". 36-Slides, in box marked "ANVIL BRAND 2", 1964-1966. First 9 slides show set-up of new plant.
